Established in 1902, we are proud to be one of the oldest law firms in Malaysia. Our history began when Rowland Allen commenced his legal career under the employ of Messrs. Joaquim Brothers in 1895. Following the death of J. P. Joaquim in 1901, the Malacca and Singapore offices of Joaquim Brothers were acquired by Rowland Allen, who would be joined by John Joseph Gledhill forming the firm Allen and Gledhill.
Post independence, Humphrey Ball, having been given direction of the Malacca office, eventually bought over its equity, making it an independent practice, separate from the rest of the Allen & Gledhill offices in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Allen, Gledhill & Ball continued, and still continues, to be solicitors to many prominent families and established businesses in Malacca. Its principals, from Humphrey Ball to Julian Chan Yew How and Ong Beng Hian have at different points in time been chairmen of the Malacca Bar.
